There are times that you just have to be ready to go. This is the lesson my son David learned one Sunday afternoon when he got caught up in “going back”.
David was just 4 years old and he had colored an amazing picture in junior church. He treasured this amazing work of art and wanted to put it in a safe place. So, instead of getting on the bus our family rode every Sunday after church, he ran to our house, which was right next door, to put his picture in that safe place.
In the bustling about getting everyone on the bus, David went unnoticed. Jeff and I got on the bus along with our other 2 children and a number of bus kids. The route was short and not far from the church. The drop off did not take long.
Once the last family of children were returned home, I went to the back of the bus to check on David, who was known for falling fast asleep on one of the seats. BUT David was not on the bus. He had been left behind!
We were just a minute from the house. The longest minute ever for this Momma! As we pulled up David was sitting on the front steps of our house crying with his coloring sheet in his hand. His first words to us were “You left me!” And he was right, we had.
In those moments, David’s amazing accomplishment did not matter to him. All that mattered was he had been left behind.
This is how it was in the days of Sodom. They ate and drank, they bought and sold, they planted and built. I am sure they had many great accomplishments, but the city of Sodom was not ready for the coming destruction.
“But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.”
Luke 17:29
The Lord will return suddenly one day as a strike of lightning. Once He is on His way you will have no time to prepare your heart for His coming. You must prepare now or be lost and left behind. In the day of His return your treasured possessions and amazing accomplishments will pale in comparison to the glory of the LORD.
Are you ready my friend? When He returns will He find “faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) Will He find it in your heart?
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
Ephesians 2:8

Loser Bible Study Series Theme Verse:
“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” Mark 8:35
“Lose” from the Greek word “Apollymi” means “to destroy fully.” It is translated destroyed in Luke 17:29, our verse for today.
