Day 91: Lost in the Lie

The Arch of Titus still stands today in Rome, Italy. Built in AD 81 to commemorate the victory of Titus and his father over the Jewish rebels in AD 70. The inside of the arch portrays the spoils from the plundering of Jerusalem. Our guide relayed that history records that Titus paraded through the streets with these items when he returned to Rome and that the spoils were used to finance the building of the Roman Colosseum.

So, it was truly a somber moment for me when I stood in Rome looking at the Arch with the Roman Forum and Roman Colosseum also in view. I thought of the warning Christ had given in the gospels of the coming destruction of Jerusalem. The next morning my Bible reading plan landed me in Luke 21.

As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. Luke 21:6

Not a coincidence I am sure that I was reading that verse the following morning. Something God wants me to acknowledge and learn??

We have such an amazing God Who is continually and masterfully working in our hearts to draw us closer, mold us more earnestly into His image.

Not only was Jerusalem destroyed as Jesus prophesied it would be, but there is a monument that stands to this day testifying to us all that it took place. Incredible and mind blowing for me!

Less than a century before the destruction of Jerusalem Jesus had come. He came unto his own and his own received him not.

They received not the love of the truth.

Jesus being the Truth, and God so loving the world that He gave us the Truth. Yet there are many still who do not receive Him.

When one does not receive the truth, one then receives a lie. There is no neutral standpoint.

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2 Thessalonians 2:10

I am learning that believing one lie leads to believing another and another and another until there is a life of strong delusion. (vs 11) A life void of truth and love. And our world sits there. In strong delusion. Lost in the lie.

But we need not be lost in the lie. God, in His love, gives us the truth. His unfailing love and undeniable truth. God has chosen to deliver and sanctify those who will believe His truth.

But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 2 Thessalonians 2:13

Did I need an Arch in Rome to remind me that God’s Word is absolutely true? That I needed to believe and receive the truth with all my heart? Well, it was definitely a compelling reminder and God knows this heart is prone to wander.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;

Prone to leave the God I love:

Take my heart, oh, take and seal it

With Thy Spirit from above.

Rescued thus from sin and danger,

Purchased by the Savior’s blood,

May I walk on earth a stranger,

As a son and heir of God.

~Robert Robinson

Theme Verse:

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. Mark 8:35

“Lose” from the Greek word “Apollymi” means “to destroy fully.” It is translated “perish” in our verse, 2 Thessalonians 2:10, for today.
