“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?” Mark 4:38
Something I heard in a talk years ago has helped me sail through many storms:
God loves me so He wants what is best for me.
God is all knowing so He knows what is best for me.
God is all powerful so He can do what is best for me.
It has been said that your problems are not your problems. The way you think about your problems is the problem. This is especially true when we are sailing through a storm.
Our storms move us to question, “Does Jesus care that we perish? Does He care that we are about to be destroyed?”
Does He CARE? Yes! He cares!! He cares about your loss. He cares if you perish. He cares if you are destroyed. He cares.
When you are lost in a sea of hurt, He cares.
When you are lost in a sea of emotional pain, He cares.
When you are lost in a stormy sea, He cares.
I am not sure I can say it enough times for it to sink into the fearful, storm-tossed soul, but Jesus cares.
While on this earth, Jesus was fully man and fully God all at the same time. As a man, He was asleep, resting peacefully in the storm. As the One true God, He was completely aware of the storm.
Does God appear to be sleeping in your storm? If He is, it is so you can learn to let go of the fear and ride out your storm by faith in the One who can say “Peace!” to your stormy sea.
If God wants what is best for you and knows what is best for you and can do what is best for you, do you not think He will do what is best for you? He will because He cares!
Theme Verse:
“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” Mark 8:35
“Lose” from the Greek word “Apollymi” means “to destroy fully.” It is translated “perish” in Mark 4:38, our verse for today.
“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?” Mark 4:38
